Other than the choice of color, there is no difference between the two
types. Pickard manufactures an ivory color fine china using kaolins (or clays),
feldspar and quartz as its
major ingredients. Bone china also uses kaolins and feldspar as ingredients, but
bone china uses ash from cattle bones or calcium phosphate as a
substitute for quartz to achieve a stark white color.
All Pickard’s retail china patterns can be washed in the
dishwasher. Except as mentioned below, we warranty that all of these patterns
will be dishwasher safe for use with home dishwashers and with proper loading,
and we suggest the use of a mild detergent. This is a limited warranty available
only to the original purchaser when purchased through authorized retailers, and
does not apply to any pattern using raised gold pastes (Carolina Blossoms and
Metropolitan Gold charger plates). This warranty is non transferable or
assignable, and is limited to the repair or replacement of any defective china
pieces and no other damages or payments of any kind will be owing by Pickard in
connection with such limited warranty.
No. If you have china to be repaired, contact one of the dealers on our Broken China Repair page or check your
local telephone directory for listings.
Pickard is unable to place a value on our antique pieces. We suggest using the following resources to assist you in determining the value of your Pickard antique china:
Refer to The Collector's Encyclopedia of Pickard China, a wonderful reference book published by Alan Reed in 1995. This 336 page hardcover book features hundreds of color photographs and approximate values of antique pieces.
Contact the Pickard Collectors' Club. Send inquiries to: The Pickard
Collectors' Club, 300 East Grove Street, Bloomington IL 61701 or call (309) 828-5533.
Pickard does not either make a market or deal in the secondary market for limited edition plates and has no information on their current values, including those produced by the company in the past. If you would like to either buy or sell a limited edition plate, we suggest you contact the Bradford Exchange at 1-800-323-8078. Their information should give you a general value of the product you wish to purchase, or current valuation and terms for a collector's plate you would like to sell.
Contact one of the discontinued pattern detailers listed on our Pickard Discontinued Pattern
Retailers page.
This is a very rare occurrence and almost always a result of improper
handling. Keep pads, something as simple as a paper towel, between plates when stored and
avoid scraping the edges. When washing, always use mild detergents and never use abrasive
pads.
Using a soft cloth with a mild cleanser like Soft Scrub will remove the
spots right away.

Pickard patterns and the year they were discontinued.
Just because the retailer doesn't have your pattern on display doesn't mean
it is discontinued or unavailable. The store can order any pattern listed on the Pickard
price list.
You can see photographs of the serving pieces for many of our patterns right here on our
web site. Line drawings of the pieces
are shown for patterns without color photos.
Brocade, Solstice, Washington and the Signature Collection all offer two cup shapes. Otherwise, only one cup is normally available in each pattern, but another "custom" cup could be made if the order is for 125 or more pieces. Have you considered a mix-and-match using the cup from a different pattern?
